Privacy Policy

DeerDayly ("we," "us") is a social journal — one entry a day, written for real life. This page explains what information we collect when you use DeerDayly, why we collect it, and the choices you have. If anything here is unclear, email us at janina@deerdayly.com and we'll explain it in plain language.
Information you provide directly
- Account information. When you sign up, we collect your email address and a password — or, if you sign in with Google, only the name, email address, and profile photo Google shares with us. You also choose a username, display name, and optional bio and avatar photo.
- Journal entries. The text you write, and any photos you attach. Entries default to private and are only shared according to the visibility you choose for that entry — private, followers, or a specific community.
- Location. If you choose to add a location to an entry, DeerDayly asks your browser for your device's coordinates, converts them into a short place name (like "Lisbon" rather than exact coordinates) using a third-party lookup service, and then discards the coordinates — only the resolved place name, which you can edit or remove before publishing, is ever stored. You can always type a place name yourself instead, or leave the field blank.
- Social content. Comments, reactions, follows, community memberships and posts, and anything else you post within the app.
Information collected automatically
We collect the standard technical information needed to operate the service — for example, to keep you signed in and to detect and prevent abuse. DeerDayly does not use third-party advertising trackers, and we do not sell your information to advertisers.
If you turn on browser push notifications, we store a subscription token issued by your browser (not tied to your identity beyond your DeerDayly account) so we can deliver notifications like new followers or reactions.
How we use your information
- To operate DeerDayly's core features: publishing entries, following people, reacting, commenting, joining communities, and generating your personal PDF export.
- To send notifications you've asked for — in-app, browser push, or email (a new follower, a reaction, a comment, an optional daily digest, or an optional "you haven't written today" reminder). You can turn each of these off individually in Settings.
- To keep the service secure and working as intended.
Who can see your information
Visibility of your journal entries is controlled entirely by you, per entry: private (only you), followers, or a community you belong to. Your username, display name, avatar, and bio are visible to anyone using DeerDayly, the same way a public profile works on most social apps.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers.
Service providers
DeerDayly relies on a small number of service providers to operate:
- Supabase — our database, authentication, and file storage, including where your journal photos and avatar are stored.
- Google — only if you choose to sign in with Google.
- Resend — to deliver transactional emails (confirmations, digests, reminders).
- Your browser's push notification service (provided by your browser maker, e.g. Google or Mozilla) — to deliver push notifications if you enable them.
- Vercel — to host and serve the DeerDayly application itself.
Each provider only receives the information necessary to perform its specific function, and none of them may use it for their own advertising purposes.
Your choices
- Edit or delete any journal entry, comment, or reaction at any time.
- Change an entry's visibility at any time.
- Turn off email or push notifications individually in Settings.
- Export your entire journal as a PDF at any time — it's your writing, and you should always be able to take it with you.
- Request deletion of your account and all associated data by emailing janina@deerdayly.com.
Children's privacy
DeerDayly is not directed at children, and you must be at least 13 years old to create an account. If we learn that someone under 13 has created an account, we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as DeerDayly changes. If we make a material change, we'll let you know in the app or by email before it takes effect. The date at the top of this page always reflects the current version.
